Ed once said that Margaret Lefranc (artist and Governor’s Award recipient for painting) was a character. I believe that Ed was describing himself my adding, of course, that he was kind, caring, and peaceful except when he perceived others weren’t fighting for peace. He certainly leaves a “black hole” in our personal innner space.

only had occasion to visit the Black Hole once but still can vividly remember old Ed showing some of us around almost like a kid in a candy store or better yet a kid opening gift on Christmas Eve. Remember his especially proud of the actual high speed camera he had operated while still at the Lab and which he managed to buy, many years later, at an auction. I guess what I will miss the most, is the fact, that he brought out the “little boy” in most of us men ! or at least in me and I[m over sixty years young !
Mr Grothus was so kind to me when I visited him during my education at St John’s College in Santa Fe. I will never forget what he shared with me. I’m happy that noble man has found peace.
